Early life

Eadweard was born in Islip, Oxfordshire, in 1004. He was the son of King Ethelred the Unready and Emma of Normandy. Eadweard was brought up in Normandy. He returned to England in 1041, after the death of his father. Eadweard was crowned king of England in 1042.

Reign

Eadweard's reign was marked by a number of religious reforms. He reformed the English church and introduced a number of new laws to promote morality. Eadweard also reformed the English legal system and established a number of new laws. These laws included the of trial by jury and the abolition of slavery.

Eadweard was a devout Christian. He spent a great deal of time in prayer and meditation. He also founded a number of churches and monasteries. Eadweard's piety earned him the title of "the Confessor."

Death and legacy

Eadweard died on 5 January 1066. He was buried in Westminster Abbey. Eadweard's death led to a civil war that resulted in the Norman conquest of England. William the Conqueror invaded England in 1066 and defeated the English army at the Battle of Hastings. William was crowned king of England in 1066, and the Norman era began.

Eadweard the Confessor is remembered as a great king. He was a devout Christian and a reformer of the English church and legal system. Eadweard's death marked the end of the Anglo-Saxon era and the beginning of the Norman era.
